Designer show houses are some of the best places for inspiration. Some require hiring a designer to duplicate the look. Others are simple tricks that anyone can duplicate. Here are six great ideas that I discovered at the recent Red Cross Designers’ Show House in Villa Delle Palme, a 1925 Mizner-style home in West Palm Beach.

Idea: Creative hang up

Jupiter designer Krista Watterworth found a creative solution for a small section of an L-shaped loggia. Instead of creating another conversation area, she hung a custom-made platform bed from the ceiling. “It was an odd, small space,” she says. “When the doors are open, it gets a wonderful breeze and you can hear water splashing in the fountain. I thought it would be a good place to relax or take a nap.” This is not a do-it-yourself project. Watterworth recommends hiring a master carpenter to properly anchor the bed into ceiling joists. In newer homes, the joists may have to be strengthened before installation.
