Insider First Person.  Laid Back Chic.

Palm Beach interior designer Krista Watterworth Alterman shares her favorite auction for scoring iconic furnishing pieces, a cool cafe with celebrity views, and cut crystal perfect for an elegant spring tablescape.

WIN WIN

My favorite place to find cool items for my clients is Palm Beach Modern Auctions on Antique Row. It’s the perfect way to find a little piece of Postmodern history: art by Haring, Dine and Hirst, furniture and fixtures from the greats like Eames, Knoll and Nelson. Right now I have my eye on the lot from Steve Rubell’s Estate for a client who relishes in 1970s excess (and a Friedeberg chair for myself).  palmbeachmodernauctions.com

TOO COOL

My favorite gastronomic treat as of late is Coolinary Café in Palm Beach Gardens–ultratrendy, super-relaxed, and laced with moments of celeb watching. The décor is  minimalist, completely barren of extravagance as any true farm-to-table environment should be; my favorite design element is the mason jar light fixtures that cast a warm glow.  I like to sit at the bar in the back and have the deviled eggs and a glass of organic wine.  coolinarycafe.com

WONDERLAND

There is no better place to indulge in lavish relaxation than The Ritz-Carlton Eau Spa located beachside in Manalapan. The décor is very Alice in Wonderland meets Hollywood Regency—who doesn’t love swinging in a cozy hair over the water and light fixtures assembled of ornate crystal glassware? You can also find classic literature and chocolate cupcakes in the Relaxation Lounge. Try the Diamonds & Pearls body treatment. It’s incredible!  ritzcarlton.com

HISTORY REPEATING

As the winter blues melt away, I tend to focus my design work around entertaining and embracing the fresh air.  My kitchen and dining spaces are fully equipped with all the essentials for a springtime soiree, including my go-to crystal—Apollow Gold Yello Hock by Saint-Louis. It’s hard to find and usually takes a creative hunt, but I love the color, vibrancy and the way it transforms any table, display or open kitchen shelving. It’s also a great heirloom to be shared between generations.  Saint-louis.com
